Clearwater, FL -- Clearwater Police have charged a man with the first-degree murder of his former roommate whose body was found early Thursday morning.
Police investigating the woman's death learned this morning Paul Denk had been living with 54-year-old Amy Arnold at her home in the 1100 block of Turner Street for the past three months after moving to Clearwater from Kansas.
Investigators say when he came home Tuesday night she wouldn't let him inside so he reportedly slept in the carport. He then came back Wednesday night and she again refused to let him in. Detectives that's when Denk broke into the house and killed her.
Denk, 58, initially said he had nothing to do with her death and that he only found her body. However, detectives say they found inconsistencies with his story.
Neighbors told investigators they heard arguing and about 30 minutes later, Denk was seen at a nearby convenience store buying beer with blood on his shoes before going back to the home and eventually calling police to say he found her body.
Police say Denk has a lengthy criminal record in Kansas for charges including burglary, aggravated assault, DUI and domestic battery.
Denk and Arnold knew each other through Arnold's sister who was married to Denk's brother years ago.
