Anthony Hughes, 22, was charged Tuesday after investigators were tipped off to the potential abuse earlier this summer. Three dogs, all female American Pit Bulls, were seized from the home on Silvercreek Drive and are now recovering. They could be eligible for adoption as early as next week.
Investigators say they found not only dog fighting equipment in Hughes' home, but evidence of fighting, with blood splattered on bedroom walls and injuries to the dogs themselves.
"These are very serious felony charges," said Pam Perry, an investigator with Hillsborough County Animal Services.
10 News has been unable to reach Hughes, and officials at MacDill said they can't provide comment until they look into the matter on Wednesday.
