Hernando County, Florida -- A man has been arrested for stealing from elderly victims while fixing their homes.
Hernando Sheriff's deputies say 32-year-old Jason Buse was working as a "handyman" at two homes in Spring Hill and while he was fixing stuff around the home, he was also stealing.
In the first home, an elderly woman said she hired Buse in August to help her with small tasks around her home. Then, on Sept. 30, she realized some of her jewelry, along with seven of her checks, were missing.
While investigating this theft, deputies were approached by a neighbor who also had hired Buse as a "handyman". The elderly couple told deputies that Buse had recently done plumbing work for them and that they also had jewelry missing from their home.
Deputies checked local pawn shops and located jewelry, matching the description provided by both victims, that was pawned by Buse.
After his arrest, Buse admitted he has a prescription drug problem and that he stole the jewelry and checks from the first home.
He was charged with two counts of grand theft and one count organized fraud. He is being held without bond.
