Dottie Berger MacKinnon, founder of A Kid's Place in Tampa and longtime child advocate, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the age of 71.
Tampa, Florida-- A memorial service was held Thursday afternoon for Dottie Berger MacKinnon.

MacKinnon was well-known in the Bay Area community as a forceful child advocate. She raised millions of dollars to launch safe-houses for neglected and abused children- Joshua House and later, A Kid's Place.
The former Hillsborough County Commissioner survived breast cancer and on Sunday lost her battle with intestinal cancer. She was 71. But even in the end, her focus was on the kids.
