St. Petersburg, Florida -- A local teen has made an emotional plea.
Fifteen-year-old Davion Henry has been in foster care since he was born. He recently learned of his birth mother's time in prison and her recent death. After that, Davion began to loose weight and improve his grades.
Last month, Davion went before the congregation at the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg and asked to be adopted.
Davion's plea has tugged at the heartstrings of the nation, even drawing the attention of Leigh Anne Tuohy, famous from her real-life story of adoption in the movie The Blind Side. She says it's time to invest in our children.
"How do we know if someone doesn't offer Davion hope and love and opportunity that he would not become the next greatest teacher or airplane pilot or police officer. All this young man needs is a chance," she says.
And he's not the only one, some 400,000 children across the U.S. living in foster care.
As for Davion, his dream might just come true. Since making his plea, his case worker says over 10,000 people have reached out asking if they might be the family for him.
