Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee High School running back Trevon Walters is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.
Last Friday night in a 51-13 district win over St. Peterburg, Walters rushed for 283 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Walters' big night helped the Canes run away with the Class 8A-7 District title.
For the season, the senior running back has gone over the 1,000 yards mark, as the Canes remain undefeated at 7-0.
For Walters, the 283 yards rushing was a career best game, and a lot of fun too.
"It was very exciting. I had never rushed that -- for almost 300 yards -- so it was very big for me. Oh, it was fun, you know. We came along as a team, got the district championship, so it was pretty good. It was fun out there running the ball."
This Friday, Manatee hosts Fort Lauderdale University, also 7-0, and the defending Class 3-A state champs. University is currently ranked 12th in the nation by Rivals and 19th by USA TODAY -- while Manatee is ranked 15th by Rivals and 23rd by USA TODAY.
Manatee coach Joe Kinnan says this is the kind of playoff caliber team the Canes need to play as they prepare for another state championship run.
