Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies are searching for the man who left two children alone in a van with a gun that accidentally went off shooting a woman in the back.
Deputies say on Oct. 21, Randall Simmons was in the back row of seats in a Ford SUV that was parked in a parking lot in the 9000 block of Adamo Drive.
At one point, he showed his gun to the four-year-old and a eight-year-old child that were also in the SUV. He then reportedly got out of the vehicle to go inside a store and left the gun in a small compartment within reach of the children.
That's when police say the four-year-old got the gun and started to play with it. The gun went off and the bullet traveled through the front seat and into the back of the child's aunt, Shantell Wilson.
When Simmons returned to the SUV and saw the commotion, he grabbed the kids and took off leaving Wilson behind.
Hillsborough Fire Rescue crews took Wilson to Tampa General Hospital where she was treated and released the following day.
Throughout the initial leg of the investigation, detectives say Wilson and the child's grandmother, who was in the driver's seat at the time of the shooting, have been uncooperative. However, detectives were able to identify everyone involved in the incident and have issued a warrant for Simmons' arrest on charges of felony culpable negligence and felon in possession of a firearm. Simmons' is reportedly the uncle of the four-year-old.
