LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) - Democratic candidate George Sheldon says Attorney General Pam Bondi should have resigned after asking to delay an execution so she could raise campaign money.
Sheldon addressed activists Sunday during the Florida Democratic Party's conference and made it clear he will make the delay of Marshall Lee Gore's execution a campaign issue.
Gore was convicted of killing two women and was executed earlier this month. Gov. Rick Scott had scheduled the execution for three weeks earlier, but he granted Bondi's request to delay it because it conflicted with a fundraiser she was hosting at her Tampa home.
While he hasn't filed paperwork yet, House Democratic Leader Thurston Perry said he will also run for attorney general.
