GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Florida guard Michael Frazier II will miss Friday night's exhibition game against Florida Southern because of mononucleosis.
It's unclear whether Frazier, a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Tampa, will recover in time for the team's Nov. 8 season opener against North Florida.
Frazier, who averaged 5.6 points as a freshman and shot 44.6 percent from 3-point range, was believed to have mono two weeks ago. Tests came back negative, though, so he resumed practice. Frazier showed symptoms again Sunday and was re-tested. Results confirmed the virus.
The Gators already are thin to begin the season. Point guard Scottie Wilbekin is suspended an undetermined number of games. Guard Eli Carter is still recovering from a broken leg, and forward Will Yeguete is recovering from knee surgery.
