Sarasota, Florida -- An elderly woman escaped with just minor injuries after she crashed her car into the Hudson Bayou in front of Sarasota High School Tuesday afternoon.
Sarasota Police officers say just before 12:30 p.m., the woman was driving south on U.S. 41, just south of U.S. 41 and High Point Drive, when she lost control of her car and drove it off the road and through some bushes before crashing into the Bayou.

The unidentified woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Witnesses who were driving behind the woman told officers they saw the car swerving between the lanes before the crash.
Police say there is damage to the water/sewer pipe but the extent of the damage it is not known at this time.
One lane on U.S. 41 was closed for nearly two hours while a towing company worked to get the car out of the canal. The road was reopened just after 2 p.m.
