Haines City, Florida -- Haines City viewer Doug English contacted me with news that his friend, Patrick McCarty, had just been the victim of a traffic accident at the US-27 exit ramp to eastbound US 17-92 where a small street called "F Street" disrupts the short merge lane.
Patrick was attempting to turn on "F Street" and a car that had just exited off of US-27 hit his car from behind.
I contacted Florida Department of Transportation spokesperson Robin Stublen who sent me documentation of only two crashes at that merge spot between 2010 and 2012 - however, both were logistically similar to the one in which Patrick was involved.
While Doug's suggested changes to the ramp will not likely be pursued due to budget and the fact that the ramp has recently received some upgrades, Robin did say that he would look further into the possibility of speed calming devices such as rumble strips.
