Tampa, Florida -- Despite the wet weather, the re-enactment of the world's first commercial flight took place on Wednesday morning.
It's been 100 years since the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line started on January 1st, 1914.
Pilot Eddie Hoffman Jr. flew a "Hoffman X-4 mullet skiff." It appears to be a one or two person plane with an open cockpit.
A replica of the original Benoist airliner that made the 1914 flight had been scheduled to make Wednesday's flight, but that aircraft failed to get airborne during testing.
Creator Kermit Weeks says he hopes more modifications will allow him to fly the airboat across the bay later this year.
