TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) -- A lawsuit has been filed by a Tallahassee lobbyist and political activist to try and force Governor Rick Scott to select a lieutenant governor.
The position has been vacant for nearly nine months since former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll abruptly resigned.
Carroll resigned last March after she was interviewed by law-enforcement authorities about work she once did for a charity that was a front for a widespread gambling ring. She has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
In her lawsuit Barbara DeVane contends that Scott is breaking a state law that requires him to appoint a lieutenant governor.

DeVane told The Associated Press she is filing the lawsuit because it's time for Scott "to follow the law and do his job."
