CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers have announced they will prepare for their Sept. 9 regular season opener against Tampa Bay at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla., because of the Democratic National Convention.
The DNC will be held in Charlotte from Sept. 3-6.
President Obama is expected to deliver a convention speech at Bank of America Stadium on Sept. 6.
Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said the team researched potential sites prior to the NFL schedule being released and that "after the opener at Tampa Bay was announced, we scouted a few places in the Tampa area and IMG made the most sense. The facility offers the privacy and infrastructure that we need to prepare for the opener."
Current Panthers scout Ken Dorsey worked last year at the IMG Academies training Cam Newton.
