Tampa, Fla. -- Jose Fernandez has made a smooth transition to professional baseball.  He had another first Monday night when he pitched in front of family and friends against the Tampa Yankees.

Promoted to the Jupiter Hammerheads two weeks ago, the Miami Marlins' 2011 first-round pick did not disappoint despite earning a hard-luck 1-0 loss.

Fernandez struck out eight over five innings and gave up just four hits and a walk.  The former Alonso High star made his third start for the Hammerheads, and he is 1-1 with a 4.80 ERA.

Fernandez earned the promotion from Greensboro after going 7-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 14 starts. He had 99 strikeouts in just 79 innings pitched.
