Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks, just hours after designating Ryan Roberts for assignment, traded the infielder to the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league infielder Tyler Bortnick.
Roberts, 31, hit .252 with nine doubles, six home runs and 33 RBI in 82 games with Arizona this season. He appeared in 372 games over four seasons with the Diamondbacks and hit .254 with 34 homers and 133 RBI.
Bortnick, 25, has played the 2012 season at Double-A Montgomery and hit .253 with four home runs and 48 RBI in 95 games.
This is Roberts' fourth organization. His best year was 2011, when he hit 19 homers with 65 rbi's for Arizona.
Roberts is expected to join the team in Baltimore on Wednesday. The Rays will make another roster move then.
