He wasn't flashy but he was affective in #23 Florida's win over Bowling Green at the Swamp on Saturday. Sophomore Jeff Driskel's performance led Gators Coach Will Muschamp to name him the starting quarterback.
Driskel passed for 114 yards was 10 of 16 on the afternoon, where out played fellow sophomore Jacoby Brissett for the position.
"Just feel like Jeff with his legs gives us some different variables in our offense that can helps us as we move forward," Muschamp said. "So it'll be Jeff's game to play. I told Jeff, `I don't want you looking over your shoulder, but you need to play well."'
Driskel took more snaps behind center on Saturday than Brissett and he passed for a 50-yard touchdown completion to Frankie Hammond en route to the 27-14 win.
"It's been a lifelong dream to be a quarterback at a university like this," Driskel said. "He just wants me to go out there and play and not worry about looking over my shoulder. He wants me to play loose and calm, and that's what I'm going to do."
Driskel will make his first start for the Gators this Saturday as they travel to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M for the Aggies first SEC matchup.
