Bradenton, Fl - The Osceola Warriors played a strong second half, defeating the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs 29-20, to advance them to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
With a slim 15-14 lead after three quarters, the Warriors defense made a critical fourth down stop, then their offense grounded out a long drive, capped off with a 22-yard touchdown run by Austin Lawrence.
Osceola added another score on their next possession, with quarterback Andrew Matyk scoring on a 11-yard run.
The win is especially sweet for the Warriors who, last year, were knocked out of the playoffs by the Mustangs in their final district game.
With the win, the Warriors (4-1, 7-3) runnerup in Class 6A-District 7, will be on the road, facing the Hillsborough Terriers, the winner of Class 6A-8.
