Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher David Price
Tampa, Florida -- Rays' lefthander David Price received the Key to the City from Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn on Tuesday.
But Price's pet French Bulldog, Astro, stole the show. The Mayor also gave Astro a Key to the City, and the dog grunted a few words of thanks into the microphone.
Mayor Buckhorn wanted to thank Price, a Tampa resident, for winning the Cy Young Award.
Price responded by saying one of the things he wanted to do, was persuade Chick-fil-A to open on Sundays. That is unlikely to happen.
Reporters asked Price about the loss of James Shields, in the trade with the Royals, and Price emphasized that the loss of Wade Davis will hurt the Rays just as much.
"I grew up with Wade Davis in the minor leagues," said Price. "And I honestly viewed him as a better pitcher than me. He had better control, and I thought he had better stuff. Whenever he gets to Kansas City, and whatever role they put him in, whenever they pick one, he's going to succeed in that role. He's good."
Price said he understood the business side of the deal, and said the other Rays' starting pitchers, including himself, will just have to step up and pitch better.
