St. Petersburg, FL-- Sprinter Trayvon Bromell of St. Pete's Gibbs HS, was named the Gatorade National Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Trayvon is now eligible for the National overall athlete award.
About 3 weeks ago, Trayvon ran a 9.99 100 meters, at a meet in New Mexico. That was the best time in the 100, on the high school level, in history.
"One of these days I can be great," Trayvon told reporters after ceremony at Gibbs HS. "I got this award over some great athletes so it's just showing me that I'm on a good path right now and I can be just as great as they are. I'm just taking it slow, taking it all in. It's a lot, but I just keep running my times and doing what I have to do with the training and staying focused."
Trayvon will attend Baylor University in the fall.
