Walking off the field in his postgame interview with CBS television, Gators' head coach Will Muschamp said starting quarterback Jeff Driskel will be "out for the season."
The redshirt junior signal caller was replaced by backup Tyler Murphy in the first quarter against Tennessee. Driskel exited the game with an ankle injury on a play that ended with a Volunteers' interception return for a touchdown.
Despite the 31-17 Florida victory over the Volunteers, it marks a big loss for the Gators. Driskel was on crutches prior to today's game due to a hyper extended right knee he suffered against the Miami Hurricanes two weeks ago.
This is the third medical issue Driskel has dealt with since the football season had begun. In training camp, he had to undergo an emergency appendectomy.
Murphy, a redshirt senior, entered his fifth game in his Gators' career, passing 8 of 14 for 134 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 10 times for 84 yards. Murphy has never started a game for Florida.
