Both East Lake and Countryside entered their Friday night showdown with perfect 2-0 district records. The Eagles made more big plays in a 47-3 win to leapfrog their district rival and set up an enormous game next weekend against fellow undefeated, Pinellas Park.
East Lake, ranked No. 2 in our Top 10 on 10 rankings, led 27-0 at halftime and never let up. Weston Fordham scored on a short touchdown run on the Eagles' first possession of the third quarter. After giving up a field goal, Tay Scott hauled in a short touchdown catch to make it 40-3.
The Cougars had outscored their district opponents 94-0 coming into the game but couldn't slow down the Eagles' offensive attack. Countryside's previous high point total allowed was 27 (Palmetto).
The Pinellas Park Patriots beat Clearwater Friday night and are now 7-0 for the first time in 30 years. They will visit the Eagles next Friday in a game that will most likely decide the district champion. Countryside will try to rebound against Seminole on the road.
