Tampa, Florida -- The Gaither Cowboys were hoping to not only spoil Sickles homecoming, but also gain a foothold on the Class 7A-7 district title.  Coming into the game, Sickles, Gaither and Tampa Bay Tech all sported 2-0 district records.

But it didn't take long to see it was going to be a happy homecoming for the Gryphons, as they ground out several long drives to run past Gaither 48-6.

Running back Ray Ray McCloud rushed for 161 yards and two scores in the first half.  But an injury to his right knee was the only thing people were talking about.

McCloud twisted his knee while making a spin move, and went down hard.  What appeared to be a possible season-ending play for the bay areas leading rusher, turned out to be something that will only keep him out for a game.

Next week Sickles (6-1, 3-0) travels to Wesley Chapel before hosting Tampa Bay Tech (6-1, 3-0) in a game that most likely will decide who wins the 7A-7 championship.

Gaither (3-4, 2-1) hosts Tampa Bay Tech in a must win if they hope to advance to the postseason.
