Tallahassee, FL -- The Heisman Trophy has become a key component of Florida State's Jameis Winston's involvement, in a sexual battery case...

Winston's attorney has already asked the state attorney to speed up the process, because he argues, it could affect Winston's chances to win the Heisman.

Right now, the state attorney needs two more weeks before filing charges... if he files charges at all

That date would be after the December 9th voting deadline.  The Heisman ceremony is December 14.

Winston wants to win the Heisman, for his teammates.

"It's just one individual accolade that I would be able to have with them," said Winston.  "And they helped me do that, because I'm a young quarterback... If I didn't have those guys, I wouldn't even be in the running for this.  It would mean a lot for them, to even be nominated for this, because everybody knows they have a certain part in that."

Florida State plays Florida, in Gainesville, on Saturday at 12 noon.  The following weekend, the Seminoles will play in the ACC Championship game.
