Davenport, Florida - Of all the horse fields in Polk County, there are plenty of studs... but only one has the chance to become golf's next thoroughbred.

At 16 years old, Sam Horsfield is the sixth-ranked amateur golfer in the world. Sponsors are drooling for the opportunity to sign him, and so are sports agents and major collegiate programs.

While Horsfield has people lining up to discuss his future, his game on the course has done most of the talking. He became the youngest champion in the 96-year history of Florida State Amateur, winning by an amazing 11 strokes in Jupiter.

"I am just staying focused on what I have to do to get better, and build my game," said Horsfield.

One PGA Tour star doesn't believe Horsfield's game will have to grow much more before making the jump to the professional ranks.

The Davenport resident -- originally born in Manchester, England -- has become friends with Lake Nona member Ian Poulter, who in turn has become one of Horsfield's biggest advocates.

Following the junior at Ridge Community High School's 61 at the U.S. Public Links qualifier, Poulter posted on Twitter:

"I told you all @hr59sam is the real deal. He would embarrass every English Amateur in the world by a mile."

Poulter even offered to fly three amateurs to compete against Horsfield in Orlando.

"He certainly has the talent to be the next great one," said Jason Bell, PGA Professional Instructor. "He's on a good path right now to meet all that success."

Horsfield will have a couple of big questions to answer on the horizon.

Missing out on the Walker Cup last time around has been a driving force for his game. This year, the RNA is asking if he will be playing for the European team or if he will play for team USA.

The other question at hand is if Horsfield will forego college to pursue his dream of playing on the PGA Tour.

"I am just trying to focus on me now, so whether it's college or whatever, I am ready to go at the next level," said Horsfield.
