Jesuit wins 5A state baseball championship

Fort Myers, Florida -- The Jesuit High School Tigers won the 5A state baseball championship, with a 5-2 win over Clay High School of Green Cove Springs.

Kasey Radke was the winning pitcher. Ronnie Ramirez came on in the 7th to close out the game, with a pickoff of a runner at 1st base.

The game was tied 2-2 in the 6th inning, when Jesuit catcher Ryan McCullers doubled off the wall in left and drove in the eventual winning run. Ramirez followed with an RBI infield single that made it 4-2. Steven Lugo then drive in another run with an RBI in the 7th.

The state championship was Jesuit's 4th in school history, and its first since 2000.

The Tigers featured many underclassmen the last month and a half of the season. Nine of their veteran players were suspended in March, for violation of team rules.
