Stamkos out indefinitely with knee injury

Bad news for the Bolts.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be without captain Steven Stamkos for what looks to be a significant amount of time.

Stamkos suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee - an MRI revealed - during Tuesday's game against the Detroit Red Wings. He's out indefinitely.

"We are in the process of evaluating options for repair and rehabilitation," Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman said in a release, "and will release more information as it becomes available."

It's truly a tough blow for Stamkos, who's scorching to start the season with nine goals and 20 points, both top-third in the league.

The Lightning (10-6-1) playing without Stamkos has become commonplace. Stammer broke his right tibia three years ago and last season, suffered a blood clot that kept him out most of the postseason.
