Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles announced Monday that
they have optioned catcher Ronny Paulino and right-hander Tommy Hunter to
Triple-A Norfolk, while recalling right-handed pitcher Jason Berken and
selecting the contract of righty Stu Pomeranz from the Tides.
Paulino has just nine hits and three runs batted in over nine games in his
first season with Orioles, while Hunter had his shortest outing of the season
Sunday at Boston after allowing five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings to press his
earned run average to 5.00 over six starts this year.
Berken was recalled once before this season but did not make an appearance for
the O's. He owns a 1.23 ERA in five starts at Norfolk but has not received a
decision.
Pomeranz will be making his Major League debut and has appeared in eight games
in the minors this year with two saves and 32 strikeouts while walking just
two in 19.0 innings.
The O's also transferred left-handed pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada to the 60-day
disabled list to make room for Pomeranz on the 40-man roster.
