San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The Houston Astros placed shortstop Jed
Lowrie on the disabled list with a right ankle sprain one day after he was
spiked by a runner while covering second base.
The Astros also put catcher Jason Castro on the 15-day DL Sunday with right
knee swelling. The move is retroactive to July 8.
To fill the spots the Astros activated shortstop Marwin Gonzalez from the 15-
day DL and called up catcher Carlos Corporan from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Lowrie, who is batting .253 this season with 14 homers and a .343 on-base
percentage, had to be helped off the field Saturday night against the Giants
after Gregor Blanco slid into him.
Castro hasn't played since before the All-Star break and is batting .254 with
two homers this season.
