Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Brandon Moss singled to right field to drive in
Yoenis Cespedes with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning,
boosting the Oakland Athletics to a 3-2 victory over New York Yankees Friday
night.
It was Oakland's 10th walk-off win this season, the most in the majors. The
Athletics, who have captured seven of their last eight contests, are within 6
1/2 games of first-place Texas in the AL West.
Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to a career-high 23 contests and
tied the game in the top of the ninth with a solo homer for the Yankees, but
the AL East leaders dropped their second straight one-run contest in this
four-game series.
Cespedes went 4-for-5 and is on a tear during an eight-game hitting streak,
going 18-for-31 in that stretch. He singled to center off Cody Eppley (0-1)
with one out in the ninth. Jonny Gomes then hit a ball that took an odd bounce
toward shortstop Derek Jeter for an infield single. Moss then delivered a
liner to right. The throw to the plate from Andruw Jones was late.
Tommy Milone recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts over seven shutout innings,
and Jemile Weeks and Brandon Inge knocked in the other runs for the Athletics.
