Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey underwent
surgery in Philadelphia on Thursday to repair a lower abdominal muscle tear.
The 37-year-old knuckleballer is coming off a career year in which he went
20-6 with a 2.73 earned run average and 230 strikeouts through 233 2/3
innings.
"Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers etc." Dickey tweeted late
Thursday night. "I'm back from Philly unscathed. That is except for a 2 inch
incision in my lower ab. Surgery went well."
Dickey, who is the leading candidate for the NL Cy Young Award, is expected to
be back at full strength by the start of Spring Training.
