Goodyear, AZ (Sports Network) - Mike McDade delivered a three-run double with
one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Cleveland Indians an
11-10 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in both teams' Cactus League openers.
Lonnie Chisenhall had a two-run homer earlier for Cleveland, while Ryan Raburn
belted a solo shot and Carlos Santana went 2-for-2 with two RBI in the
victory. Michael Brantley also collected a pair of hits, including an RBI
double, and scored twice to contribute to the Tribe's 14-hit attack.
Devin Mesoraco cracked a two-run homer and Ryan Hanigan knocked in a pair of
runs with a first-inning double for Cincinnati. Joey Votto finished 2-for-3
with and RBI in the loss, with Miguel Olivo adding a solo home run for the
Reds.
Indians starter Giovanni Soto was tagged for five runs on three hits and two
walks while lasting just two-thirds of an inning. Frank Herrmann collected the
win after setting the Reds down in order in the top of the ninth.
McDade's bases-loaded hit came off Drew Hayes, with all three Cleveland runs
in the ninth charged to losing pitcher Carlos Contreras.
