Rays set their Opening Day roster

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (WTSP/AP) - The Tampa Bay Rays have set their opening day roster by placing injured pitchers Jeremy Hellickson and Juan Carlos Oviedo and shortstop Tim Beckham on the 15-day disabled list.

Hellickson is expected to miss the first six to eight weeks of the season after surgery on his pitching elbow. Rookie Jake Odorizzi will fill in as the No. 5 starter.

Oviedo re-signed with Tampa Bay after not pitching in 2013, when he was recovering from elbow ligament-replacement surgery. He had 92 saves for the Miami Marlins from 2009-11, when he was known as Leo Nunez.

Beckham is recovering from surgery on his right knee. He was the No. 1 pick in the 2008 amateur draft and made his major league debut last September, appearing in five games.
