Lincoln, NE (Sports Network) - Chip Armelin scored a career-high 15 points off
the bench to lead the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 69-61 victory over the
Nebraska Cornhuskers in a Big Ten Conference bout at the Devaney Center.
Julian Welch added 10 points for Minnesota (17-7, 5-6 Big Ten) after he went
3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Joe Coleman grabbed seven rebounds for the Golden
Gophers.
Bo Spencer led the Cornhuskers (11-11, 3-8) with 18 points. Toney McCray added
15 points and Brandon Richardson chipped in 10 points. McCray grabbed a team-
high six rebounds in the losing effort.
Nebraska took a 33-32 advantage into the intermission after it shot 59.1
percent from the floor and connected on 4-of-10 from three-point range in the
opening period. The Golden Gophers stayed close by hitting 44.8 percent of
their field goals in the first half.
The Golden Gophers ran away with it after the break as they shot a net
scorching 66.7 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Minnesota dominated the battle inside, as it outscored the Cornhuskers, 40-24,
in the paint and held a 31-24 advantage in the rebounding battle.
