Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Tray Woodall scored 29 points and dealt out
five assists to lead the Pittsburgh Panthers to a 79-70 victory over the
Villanova Wildcats in a Big East Conference battle at the Petersen Events
Center.
Ashton Gibbs contributed 25 points for Pitt (15-9, 4-7 Big East) as it won for
the fourth time in a row. Talib Zanna led the Panthers with eight rebounds.
Maalik Wayns led the five players for Villanova (10-13, 3-8) who scored in
double-figures as he netted 18 points on 7-of-22 shooting from the floor.
Dominic Cheek chipped in 13 points while Mouphtaou Yarou recorded a double-
double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. James Bell and JayVaughn Pinkson
contributed 10 points each in the Wildcats' third-straight loss.
Pitt took a 40-28 advantage into the intermission after it shot 53.8 percent
from the field in the opening period. The Wildcats made only 30.3 percent of
their field goal tries in the first half.
Villanova tried to rally after the break by shooting 41.9 percent from the
floor in the second half, but the Panthers made 21-of-23 from the free throw
line to stay in front.
The Wildcats were held to 30.3 percent shooting in the contest.
