Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - Lucas Troutman scored 16 points to lead the
Elon Phoenix to a 55-50 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles in the opening of
Southern Conference play at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Troutman shot 7-of-11 from the floor to help guide the Phoenix (5-2, 1-0
SoCon) to their fifth win in the last six outings. Jack Isenbarger added 12
points and four assists.
Tre Bussey led the Eagles (2-4, 0-1) in scoring with 16 points on 7- of-12
shooting. C.J. Reed added 13 points, while Eric Ferguson put together a
double-double off the bench with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Georgia Southern shot 52.4 percent from the floor in the first half but still
trailed 32-26 at the break due to Elon scoring 12 points off Eagles'
turnovers.
In the second half both squads converted just eight field goals and, even with
Elon making only 3-of-9 behind the three-point line in the period, the visitors
still held on for the five-point victory
Elon scored 11 second-chance points while GSU only tallied five.
