Des Moines, IA (Sports Network) - Matthew Dellavedova erupted for 31 points,
leading five players in double figures, as the Saint Mary's Gaels posted a
convincing 88-73 win over the Drake Bulldogs in non-conference action at the
Drake Knapp Center.
Dellavedova converted 10-of-14 shots from the floor, including 4-of-5 behind
the three-point line, and also handed out seven assists and cleared five
rebounds as the Gaels (6-2) picked up their second straight win. Also scoring
in double figures were Beau Levesque and James Walker III with 14 points
apiece, followed by Brad Waldow and Jorden Page with 12 and 10 points,
respectively.
The Bulldogs (3-4) were paced by Jeremy Jeffers who tallied 16 points off the
bench, while Seth VanDeest and Ben Simons tacked on 15 and 11 points,
respectively.
Drake led by a basket early, but the hosts ended up shooting a mere 31.0
percent from the floor, allowing SMC to move out to a 47-33 advantage at the
break.
In the second half the Bulldogs picked up the pace with 54.5 percent accuracy
from the field, but at the same time the Gaels were hitting on 54.2 percent of
their attempts, en route to the double-digit decision.
Saint Mary's, which turned the ball over 21 times, won the battle of the
boards, 38-20.
