Bowling Green, KY (Sports Network) - T.J. Price netted 16 points to lift the
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to a 70-64 win over the North Texas Mean Green in
a Sun Belt Conference bout at E.A. Diddle Arena.
George Fant chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds to help WKU (10-5, 4-0
SBC) pick up its second consecutive victory. Teeng Akol got into the mix by
scoring 13 points and rejecting five shots while Brandon Harris filled up the
stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds, and six assists without a
turnover.
Jordan Williams came off the bench for the Mean Green (5-8, 0-2) to tally a
game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. Chris Jones added 10
points, five steals, and four assists while Tony Mitchell pulled down a game-
high 10 boards. The setback was the second in a row for North Texas.
The Hilltoppers knocked down 7-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc in the
opening half to take a 37-26 lead into the break. North Texas trailed by
double-digits at halftime after shooting 40.7 percent from the floor in the
opening 20 minutes.
The Mean Green opened up the second half with a 20-9 run and tied the game at
46 with 12:25 left on the clock. The visitors then took a 49-48 lead after
Clarke Overlander drained a 3-pointer, but WKU answered with an 8-2 run that
put it in front for good. The Hilltoppers shot just 36.4 percent from the
floor after the break, but they managed to improve to 4-0 in league play by
converting 15-of-21 at the charity stripe in the second half.
WKU held a narrow 37-33 edge in the rebounding battle.
