Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Royce O'Neale registered a double-double of 11
points and 10 rebounds to lead the Denver Pioneers to a 75-50 rout of the
Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in a Western Athletic Conference bout at Magness
Arena.
Marcus Byrd tallied a team-high 12 points for Denver (7-7, 3-1 WAC) as it
picked up its third consecutive victory. Chase Hallam and Chris Udofia also
got into the mix by scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Jeromie Hill paced UTSA (4-10, 0-4) by scoring 13 points to go along with nine
boards. The rest of the Roadrunners' starting five went a combined 6-of-26
from the field as they lost for the fourth time in a row.
The Pioneers took a 39-19 lead into halftime after shooting 52 percent from
the field including 7-of-16 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.
UTSA fell behind after being limited to just 26.1 percent field goal shooting
in the first half.
Denver extended its advantage after the break by sinking seven more attempts
from beyond the arc.
The Roadrunners held a slight 33-29 edge in the rebounding battle, but they
could not overcome their 16 turnovers, which Denver converted into 25 points.
