Manhattan, NY (Sports Network) - Steve Frankoski converted 5-of-7 shots behind
the 3-point line, finishing with 27 points, as the Columbia Lions captured a
78-63 win over visiting Harvard in Ivy League play at Levien Gym.
Also scoring in double figures for the Lions (10-10, 2-4 Ivy) were Alex
Rosenberg and Maodo Lo with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Cory
Osetkowski came up a rebound shy of a double-double as he tallied 10 points
off the bench as the team snapped a four-game slide.
The Crimson (13-7, 5-1), which was at Cornell on Friday night where it posted
a fifth straight conference win, was led by Wesley Saunders with 27 points on
a perfect 10-of-10 effort at the charity stripe. Siyani Chambers chipped in 12
points as Harvard had a four-game win streak halted.
Shooting an impressive 51.9 percent from the floor in the first half, the
Lions pulled out to a 38-34 lead at the break. Harvard kept the game close
with 10-of-11 shooting at the free-throw line through the first 20 minutes of
action.
In the second half Columbia again shot the ball well from the field at 50
percent, hitting on 5-of-10 beyond the arc, en route to the double-digit win.
Harvard, which bowed despite connecting on 23-of-28 at the stripe, had won
seven straight in the series with the Lions before today.
This was one of several games originally scheduled to take place on Saturday
but had to be postponed due to a winter storm that disrupted much of the
Northeast.
