Cheney, WA (Sports Network) - Collin Chiverton scored 20 points off the bench
as the Eastern Washington Eagles out-dueled the Sam Houston State Berakats,
81-76, in a BracketBusters showdown at Reese Court.
Parker Kelly added 17 points, and Jeffrey Forbes and Venky Jois each had 11
points for Eastern Washington (8-19) which has won three of its last four.
Jois also had team-highs in rebounds (8), assists (6) and blocks (4).
Paul Baxter managed 19 points and seven rebounds, James Thomas tallied 12
points and seven boards and Marquel McKinney chipped in 10 points for Sam
Houston State (14-13) which has lost three of its last four.
Eastern Washington rolled to a 41-25 advantage at halftime by shooting 68.2
percent from the field in the first half, including a 6-of-8 effort from
beyond the arc.
After halftime the Bearkats shot just 35.6 percent but had twice as many field
goal attempts as the Eagles. Sam Houston State pulled to within two points
with 34 seconds left but the Eagles made good on 5-of-6 from the free-throw
line to hold on.
Sam Houston State outscored Eastern Washington, 17-7, in points off takeaways
while committing only six turnovers. The Eagles outscored the Bearkats from 3-
point range (30-21) and the free-throw line (25-17).
