Moraga, CA (Sports Network) - Matthew Dellavedova scored 19 points and handed
out five assists as the Saint Mary's Gaels got past the Creighton Bluejays,
74-66, in a BracketBusters bout at McKeon Pavilion.
Stephen Holt added 13 points, Brad Waldow posted a double-double with 12
points to match 12 rebounds and Mitchell Young chipped in 11 points for Saint
Mary's (24-5) which has won three straight and 12 of their last 13.
Doug McDermott scored a game-high 22 points, Gregory Echenique tallied 18
points and Jahenns Manigat chipped in 11 points for Creighton (22-7) which had
a brief two-game winning streak put to an end.
The Gaels held the Bluejays to just eight field goals on 29.6 percent
shooting in the first 20 minutes. Saint Mary's shot 45.2 percent itself and
led 38-24 at the break.
In the second half Creighton heated up to 54.2 percent shooting but could get
no closer than eight points as the Gaels hit 12-of-14 from the free-throw
line to secure a crucial win.
Saint Mary's had a 39-27 edge in rebounds and led by as many as 17 points.
