Youngstown, OH (Sports Network) - Kamren Belin and Blake Allen each finished
with 20 points to lead the Youngstown State Penguins over the Central Michigan
Chippewas, 86-75, as part of the BracketBusters event at the Beeghly Center.
DJ Cole added a double-double with 12 points and 12 assists for the Penguins
(15-12), while Damian Eargle chipped in with 10 points.
For the Chippewas (9-16), Chris Fowler led the way with 19 points, while Kyle
Randall added 17 points and John Simon finished with 16 points.
YSU was red-hot to start the contest, knocking down 69.2 percent of its field
goal tries in the first half, including 5-of-10 from beyond the 3-point arc,
as it took a 45-27 lead at halftime. CMU was held to just 40 percent shooting
from the field, although it did make 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
After intermission, the Penguins continued to shoot the ball well, draining 50
percent of their shots from the field, while the Chippewas improved to 44.8
percent shooting. CMU was a perfect 18-of-18 from the free-throw line in the
second half as it sought to stay within striking distance, but it could get no
closer than seven down the stretch, as the Penguins grabbed the victory.
YSU had the slight edge on points in the paint, 24-22, and points off of
turnovers, 12-11.
