Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Chavaughn Lewis registered a monster
double-double of 30 points and 16 rebounds to set new career-highs in both
categories as the Marist Red Foxes coasted to a 112-74 victory over the VMI
Keydets in the annual BracketBuster event at the McCann Center.
Lewis also dealt out six assists and swiped five steals to complete a
spectacular all-around performance for Marist (8-20), which snapped a two-game
losing streak with the win. Devin Price went 7-of-8 from the floor to net 20
points, T.J. Curry scored 16 points and Adam Kemp posted 13 points. Isaiah
Morton contributed a double-double of his own for the Red Foxes with 11 points
and 13 assists.
D.J. Covington paced the Keydets (11-16) with 18 points. Stan Okoye chimed in
with 14 points and Dorian Albritton scored 11 off the bench as VMI lost for
the sixth time in a row.
The Keydets struggled out of the gate and hit on just 37.5 percent of their
field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes. Marist took a 56-37 lead into
halftime after connecting on 65.6 percent of its shots from the floor
including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
The Red Foxes continued their red-hot shooting after the break as they poured
in 62.5 percent of their field goal tries to outscore VMI, 56-37, over the
final 20 minutes of action.
Marist held a 47-33 edge in the rebounding battle and assisted 27 of its 41
made field goals to capture the lopsided decision.
