College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Justus Pickett had only 21 yards rushing
but his one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter proved to be the
difference as the Maryland Terrapins took down the Wake Forest Demon Deacons
19-14 in an Atlantic Coast Conference clash at Byrd Stadium.
Perry Hills completed 14-of-25 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown while also
being intercepted once for Maryland (3-2, 1-0 ACC). Stefon Diggs caught five
of those passes for 105 yards. The Terps struggled all game on the ground with
Wes Brown's 23 yards a team-high.
Tanner Price completed only 13 of his 38 pass attempts in the loss for Wake
Forest (3-3, 1-3) which has lost three of its last four. Price finished with
170 yards and two touchdowns. Terence Davis caught seven passes for 130 yards
and a score and Josh Harris rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries.
On just the third play from scrimmage Price connected with Davis for a 73-yard
touchdown pass as the Demon Deacons jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
A pair of Brad Craddock field goals, one from 49 yards out and the other from
52, helped the Terps cut into that advantage.
Just over two minutes before halftime Maryland would take the lead when Hills
completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Dorsey.
The Demon Deacons reclaimed the lead with just over seven minutes left in the
third quarter when Price tossed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Tommy Bohanon.
Pickett put the Terps back on top with just over five minutes left in
regulation on a one-yard touchdown run. Craddock missed the extra point
attempt making the score 19-14. It turned out to be the winning score as Wake
Forest failed to get anything going on its final three possessions.
It was not a game for offense with neither Maryland (244 yards) or Wake Forest
(241) reaching the 250-yard mark in total offense. The Terps averaged only 1.2
per carry in the win.
