Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
ARIZONA: In its regular-season finale with the rival Arizona State Sun Devils
the Wildcats let a 10-point lead slip away in a 41-34 loss in the Territorial
Cup. After John Bonano hit a 23-yard field goal late in the third quarter,
Arizona went up 27-17. However in the fourth quarter that lead disappeared
behind three Arizona State touchdowns. The Wildcats close the season with a
7-5 record and a 4-5 ledger in conference play. Matt Scott finished with an up
and down game, as he completed 19-of-39 passes for 230 yards and three
touchdowns but was intercepted three times as well. Scott also picked up 42
yards on the ground. Ka'Deem Carey piled up 172 rushing yards and a touchdown
on 25 carries. Garic Wharton was the lead pass-catcher in the game bringing in
six passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Wharton had only seven catches in the
previous 11 games. Austin Hill caught five passes for 70 yards and a score as
well. Hill finished the regular season with 73 catches for 1,189 yards and
nine scores. Arizona lost despite owning a 522-460 edge in total offense. The
Wildcats are bowl eligible and will await for their placement to be announced
on Dec. 2.
ARIZONA STATE: The Territorial Cup went to the Sun Devils this year as they
rallied to collect a 41-34 win over the rival Arizona Wildcats. The Sun Devils
trailed 27-17 entering the fourth quarter but got three touchdowns in the
final period to push their record to 7-5 overall and 5-4 in Pac-12 play.
Arizona State still tails the all-time series 47-38-1 but have won the last
two meetings in Tucson. Marion Grice scored three touchdowns, including the
game-tying score in the fourth quarter, while picking up 156 yards on 18
carries. Taylor Kelly completed 16-of-29 passes for 191 yards. Chris Coyle had
a pair of catches and now has 53 receptions this season. Coyle needs just
three more catches to tie Zach Miller's 56-reception record for tight ends in
a season at Arizona State. Keelan Johnson nabbed his fifth interception of the
season and third in the last two games. Eleven different players have
interceptions for the Sun Devils which is tied for the second most in the
nation. Will Sutton had two tackles for loss and now has at least one TFL in
all 10 games he has played in this season. Arizona State now awaits its bowl
destination which will be announced next weekend.
CALIFORNIA: The Golden Bears' regular season ended with a 3-9 overall mark
with a 62-14 loss to Oregon State last weekend. California will not play in a
bowl game. With the sub par season, the school has decided to sever ties with
Jeff Tedford, who has been in Berkeley for 11 years.
COLORADO: Despite holding a lead entering the fourth quarter, the Buffaloes
ended their regular season with an eighth straight loss after a 42-35 defeat
against Utah. The decisive blow was a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown
midway through the final period. The Buffaloes had a 100-yard kickoff return
itself in the game when Marques Mosley brought one back on the previous
kickoff. Colorado finishes the season at a miserable 1-11 overall and 1-8 in
conference play. Colorado was 0-6 at Folsom Field, its first winless season at
home since 1920. The loss was only the sixth in 219 chances when the team
scores at least 35 points. Donta Aberon rushed for a career-high 84 yards and
a touchdown on 14 carries. Along with freshman Christian Powell the
combination had 947 yards rushing, the third most by a pair of freshmen in
school history. Nick Hirschman completed 30-of-51 passes for 307 yards and a
touchdown but was intercepted four times. He set career marks for completions
and attempts. Colorado had a 25-18 edge in first downs and a 418-336 advantage
in total offense. Nelson Spruce hauled in 10 passes for 98 yards and a
touchdown, while Tyler McCulloch had six catches for 88 yards. Colorado's
regular season ended with this game. Head coach Jon Embree was relieved of his
duties following yet another dismal campaign.
OREGON: After taking a devastating loss to Stanford last weekend, Oregon
bounced back with a 48-24 rout of No. 16 Oregon State in a Civil War matchup
in Corvallis. Oregon finishes the season at 11-1 and 8-1 Pac-12 play but will
not factor in the conference title game since Stanford won its matchup with
UCLA on Saturday. The win was the fifth straight for the Ducks against the
Beavers in the 116-game series. Bad news for the Ducks is that star running
back Kenjon Barner left the game late in the first half with what was later
described as a minor injury. Oregon got back to its offensive identity in the
win rushing for 430 of its 570 total yards. Barner picked up 198 of those
yards and two touchdowns, while De'Anthony Thomas racked up 122 yards and
three touchdowns. Marcus Mariota completed 17-of-24 pass attempts for 140
yards and a touchdown and also picked up 85 yards and an additional score on
the ground. Josh Huff caught five passes for 62 yards, while B.J. Kelley's
two-yard touchdown reception was his only catch of the game. Oregon is assured
a bowl game appearance, and still has an outside shot at the national title
game, but will await the announcement later next weekend.
OREGON STATE: The Beavers couldn't keep up with their instate rivals on
Saturday in a 48-24 loss in a Civil War matchup with the No. 5 Oregon Ducks.
Markus Wheaton brought in seven passes for 98 yards and Brandin Cooks had
five catches for 74 yards. Wheaton and Cooks both passed the 1,000 yard
receiving mark this season making them the first teammates to do so for the
Beavers since 2003. Wheaton's 76 receptions this season which is a career-high
is the seventh most in a single season in Oregon State history. Storm Woods
rushed for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the team on the ground.
The Beavers had only 82 yards rushing as a team compared to 430 by the Ducks.
Sean Mannion completed 31-of-49 pass attempts for 311 yards and a touchdown
but was also picked off four times. The Beavers converted on only 4-of-12
attempts on third down but were successful on 4-of-5 attempts on fourth down.
The Beavers are now 8-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play. Oregon State will
play a rescheduled game from earlier in the season against Nicholls next
Saturday as it awaits its bowl destination.
STANFORD: With a 35-17 win over No. 15 UCLA, Stanford secured the Pac-12 North
Division title and punched its ticket to next weekend's Pac-12 championship
game where the Cardinal will again face UCLA. Stanford finishes the regular
season with an overall record of 10-2 and an 8-1 mark against Pac-12
competition. Stepfan Taylor rushed for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns on
20 carries as the Cardinal picked up 221 of its 381 total yards on the ground.
Kevin Hogan threw for 160 yards and a touchdown on 15-of-22 passing. Tight end
Zach Ertz was the lead receiver with five receptions for 71 yards. No other
player had more than 30 yards receiving, although Drew Terrell (2 receptions,
11 yards) brought in the only receiving touchdown. Stanford's defense held
Johnathan Franklin, who is third in rushing in the Pac-12, to only 64 yards on
21 carries. Chase Thomas had a pair of sacks for Stanford which had seven
quarterback takedowns in the game. Usua Amanam collected a fumble recovery.
UCLA: The Bruins had a five-game winning streak put to an end with a 35-17
loss to Stanford in the regular-season finale at the Rose Bowl. With the loss
UCLA drops to 9-3 overall this season and 6-3 in conference play. However due
to its win over USC the previous weekend the Bruins already secured the Pac-12
South division title to earn a spot in the Pac-12 championship game where they
will play Stanford yet again. Brett Hundley completed 20-of-38 pass attempts
for 261 yards and a touchdown but had an interception and was sacked seven
times. Hundley moved into second place in touchdown passes (26) and passing
yards (3,234) in a single season by a UCLA quarterback. Joseph Fauria caught
four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown and now has a reception in 20
straight games. The touchdown reception was the 11th of the season for Fauria
which is tied for the best single-season mark in program history. Johnathan
Franklin rushed for only 64 yards on 21 carries. Anthony Barr had a career-
high nine tackles and freshman kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn hit a career-long 48-
yard field goal.
USC: USC's disappointing season continued with a 22-13 loss to No. 1 Notre
Dame during the team's annual rivalry game with the Fighting Irish. The
Trojans got into Notre Dame territory on each of their last two possession but
got stopped on fourth and goal and had quarterback Max Wittek sacked as time
expired on the final play of the game. USC finishes the season at 7-5 overall
and 5-4 in conference play. Wittek was filling in for Matt Barkley and
completed 14-of-23 pass attempts for 186 yards and a touchdown but was
intercepted twice. Robert Woods brought in a team-high seven passes for 92
yards and a score. Marqise Lee had just five receptions for 75 yards but still
took over the single-season record for receptions in a season with 112. Silas
Redd led the team on the ground with 77 yards on 12 carries. The Trojans were
held to just 281 yards of total offense, while giving up 439 to the Irish.
Hayes Pullard had 13 tackles as one of three players with double-digit tackle
totals. As this was the regular-season finale, USC will await its bowl
destination announcement next weekend.
UTAH: Special teams ended up ruling the day for Utah against Colorado on
Saturday as Reggie Dunn's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown proved to be
the decisive blow for the Utes in a 42-35 win over the Buffaloes in Boulder.
Dunn's kickoff return came on the kickoff that followed an identical 100-yard
touchdown return on a kickoff by Colorado's Marques Mosley. Utah's special
teams also made an impact when Joe Kruger blocked a field goal attempt in the
second quarter. The Utes also forced five turnovers in the game. Utah was
eliminated from bowl consideration last weekend but finishes the season at 5-7
overall and 3-6 in league play. John White finished the season strong with 168
yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. White ended the season with 1,041 yards
and is only the second running back in Utah history to post back-to-back
seasons of 1,000 yards rushing. Travis Wilson completed 13-of-25 pass attempts
for 128 yards and a touchdown. Kenneth Scott led eight different receivers to
catch passes with four receptions for 36 yards. Dres Anderson's 16-yard
touchdown reception was his only catch of the game. Nate Fakahafua had seven
tackles, including four for a loss, which was the most in a single game by a
Ute since 2008.
WASHINGTON: The Huskies let a 28-10 lead slip away in taking a 31-28 loss in
overtime to rival Washington State during the annual battle for the Apple Cup.
The Huskies scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to earn the 18-point
lead but were held scoreless the rest of the way. The loss means Washington
will finish the regular season with a 7-5 overall mark and a 5-4 ledger
against team's from the Pac-12. Washington managed only 269 yards of total
offense which was exactly 100 yards fewer than the Huskies allowed to the
Cougars. Keith Price completed 20-of-34 pass attempts for 194 yards and a pair
of scores but was also intercepted twice. Bishop Sankey rushed for 84 yards
and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Huskies on the ground. Kasen Williams
caught eight passes for 83 yards and Austin Seferian-Jenkins hauled in five
passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. Washington was guilty of 18 penalties in
the game which accounted for 129 yards. The Huskies also had only 17 first
downs as opposed to the 25 accumulated by the Cougars.
WASHINGTON STATE: It took all season but the Cougars finally earned a win in
Pac-12 play under Mike Leach by virtue of a 31-28 win over instate rival
Washington. Andrew Furney nailed a 27-yard field goal in overtime and the
Cougars rallied from an 18-point deficit at the beginning of the fourth
quarter to take home the 105th Apple Cup. The 18-point comeback was the
largest deficit overcome by the Cougars since 1994. The win was a lone bright
spot in a season in which Washington State managed just a 3-9 overall record
and was 0-8 against all other Pac-12 teams it faced. Surprisingly the Cougars'
rally came on the ground with Carl Winston scoring two of his three touchdowns
in the fourth quarter. Still the Cougars had only 19 yards rushing n the game.
Jeff Tuel threw for 350 yards but no touchdowns on 33-of-53 passing, while
also being intercepted twice. Dominique Williams was the lead receiver with
eight receptions for 143 yards. The Cougars had a 100-yard advantage in total
offense (369-269) and also picked up more first downs than Washington (25-17).
This was the final game of the season for the Cougars.
