East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem
Nicks fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during the team's
second organized team activity workout on Thursday.
Nicks, who caught 76 balls for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns for New York
last season, will undergo surgery on Friday to have a screw inserted into the
broken bone.
The expected recovery time for the 24-year-old North Carolina product is
approximately 12 weeks.
Over the course of three seasons, all with the Giants, Nicks has registered
202 receptions, 3,034 yards and 24 touchdowns.
In addition, cornerback Brian Witherspoon, who tore his anterior cruciate
ligament for a second consecutive year during Wednesday's OTA workout, was
waived/injured.
To fill his spot on the roster, New York inked six-year veteran defensive back
Dante Hughes.
