Metairie, LA (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints signed quarterback
Luke McCown and running back Joe Banyard on Thursday,
McCown, who is entering his ninth NFL season, spent the past three seasons
with the Jacksonville Jaguars, primarily as a back up to David Garrard and
Blaine Gabbert. He appeared in eight games with the Jags completing 42
passes for 418 yards and no touchdowns.
The Louisiana Tech product has appeared in 20 NFL games completing 58.2
percent of his passes for 2,035 yards and nine touchdowns.
Banyard, a rookie out of Texas-El Paso rushed for 1,490 yards and 14
touchdowns in two seasons with the Miners. Banyard transferred from Texas
Christian to UTEP in 2009. He was originally signed by Jacksonville following
the 2012 NFL Draft.
Both players participated in the Saints minicamp from June 5-7 on a tryout
basis.
