Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch
was charged with driving under the influence following his arrest over the
weekend.
A spokeswoman for the Alameda County District Attorney's office, Teresa
Drenick, confirmed the charge in an email Wednesday afternoon, citing the
section of the California Vehicle Code making it illegal to drive with a blood
alcohol content above 0.08.
The Associated Press first reported the charge.
Lynch was seen weaving in and out of his lane on Interstate 880 early Saturday
morning, according to accounts, and police said he nearly crashed into two
other vehicles.
Lynch, an Oakland native and Seahawks fan favorite, rushed for 1,204 yards and
12 touchdowns -- both career highs -- in 15 games last season.
The Buffalo Bills traded Lynch to Seattle in October 2010. While with the
Bills, the running back served a three-game suspension in 2009 after pleading
guilty to misdemeanor weapons charge for carrying a gun in his vehicle.
