Lovie Smith says Mike Williams "was a victim"

Orlando, Florida -- Bucs head coach Lovie Smith told 10 Sports on Tuesday, "From our information that we have right now, Mike Williams was the victim of an act."

Smith was speaking between meetings at the NFL Owners' Meetings at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando. He said he spoke with Williams by telephone. 10 News Sports Anchor Dave Wirth asked Smith if Williams was still on the team.

"Of course he's still on the football team," Smith said. "I've talked to Mike on the telephone. Of course, I wouldn't be able to talk to you about anything until I got back there. There's nothing that's happened to cause him to be off the football team."

Williams was treated for a minor knife wound on Sunday. The incident happened at his Avila rented house. His brother, Eric Baylor, turned himself in to authorities late Monday night, and is being held without bond on a second degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
